My Genesis
Growing up, I remember my grandpa proudly saying he built our old house with just ₦800. That might sound unbelievable today, but back then, that amount took real hustle. He was a successful businessman — a butcher, the strongest man I’ve ever known. Deeply religious and endlessly generous, he laid a solid foundation for his sons, giving them good education and a legacy built on dignity and hard work. But my dad — he was the rebel. He didn’t finish secondary school. He craved freedom and wanted to do things his own way. He hustled hard, not because he had to prove a point, but because he wanted to provide for his family. I admire him for that. In many ways, he’s just an older version of me. Still, looking at his journey and that of his elder brother, I feel like they lost something along the way — they forgot to stay connected to their beginning. Their genesis. So here I am, at the abattoir — to reconnect with ours. This is the place that brought us to Lagos. This is the heart of the Ali name. The reason we were once one of the most respected families back home. I may be new to the industry now, but I’m not lost. I believe this path isn’t a mistake. I’m not here to play it safe. I’m here to redefine the industry. I’m the new air. I’m the Gen Z butcher
